Ruined explores the human spirit but following Mama Nadi, a savvy business woman during a civil war in a small mining town in the Republic of Congo. Nadi provides refuge for women, providing them with food, clothes, and shelter but demands that they satisfy the soldiers and other men. Though Mama Nadi feels for these women she still exploits them, the audience is left to decide whether she is protecting or profiting from them.
