Follies
Show Synopsis
The winner of seven Tony Awards®, FOLLIES is one of James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim's greatest works. It is a bittersweet look at the follies of youth seen through the eyes of age and experience. When former members of the "Weismann's Follies" reunite on the eve of their theater's demolition, two couples remember their glorious past and face the harsher realities of the present. In the crumbling glamour of the theater, the shadows of their younger selves remind them of the complicated steps they've dancedboth on the stage and throughout their lives.
FOLLIES echoes the songs, exuberance and romance of the lively vaudevillian days between the two World Wars. With such wellknown songs as "Broadway Baby," "I'm Still Here," "Too Many Mornings," "Could I Leave You?" and "Losing My Mind," the show gives voice to the ghosts that haunt the stages of Broadway's great old theaters with what the Washington Post calls some of Sondheim's "wittiest, most luminous songs."
The Kennedy Center's lavish and landmark new staging of James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award®winning musical FOLLIES comes to Broadway for a historic limited engagement, complete with a 28piece orchestra and a cast of 41led by such Broadway babies as twotime Tony® winner Bernadette Peters, fourtime Tony® nominee Jan Maxwell, twotime Tony® nominee Danny Burstein and threetime Emmy nominee Ron Raines and Olivier Award winner Elaine Paige.
