Equus: Horse Nightmare Play

The new revival of Equus at the Broadhurst Theatre is a play about a psychologist with a title character that is a horse- amalgamation of things scared and secular. Equus truly is an open invitation to bathe in the waters of symbolism and allegory. Equus is the story of a young man who violently blinds multiple horses in England, the play itself is based on a story Peter Shaffer was told once. By his own admission, Shaffer's Equus is based only loosely in fact. In waking and sleeping, Shaffer's characters are either watching (audience) or they are doing (acting).
