Stars At President Obama Inauguration
By Broadway Magazine Staff

History was made with the inauguration of President Barack Obama. On hand to participate were stars and artists who braved cold weather and security measures to witness history up close. Given the fact that Quincy Jones has called upon President Obama to establish a Secretary of the Arts position, there are high hopes for fans of Broadway and all the arts that for the first time since FDR, America has a president who recognizes the power of the arts to cultivate imagination and build communities.
In his Inaugural Address, President Obama said:
"Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when Imagination is joined to Common Purpose, and Necessity to Courage."
The direct connection between Imagination and the Arts is clear. Perhaps celebrities like Spike Lee, Sting, Anne Hathaway, Rachael Leigh Cook, Kerry Washington and Adrian Grenier from the Creative Coalition will join with Quincy Jones in advocating for a Secretary of the Arts post. We can hope. Click on the photos to enjoy the stars at the historic Inauguration.
