Power Of Two: Cheyenne Jackson and Michael Feinstein

By Leora Kanner, Broadway Magazine

In this exclusive interview, Broadway.tv talks to the two stars of the latest and groundbreaking two man show called "The Power of Two," a title taken from an Indigo Girls song. The show, playing at the iconic Feinstein's at the Regency Hotel stars Cheyenne Jackson of "Xanadu" and "All Shook Up" and the celebrated Michael Feinstein and is, according to Mr. Jackson, "all about relationships." Both of the stars are gay men (with other partners) who sing beautifully about the different types of friendships of love. Although the show is politically slanted, Mr. Jackson emphasizes that the message is "not something [they are] banging you over the head with."

The show was originally performed for just one night but after a sold-out performance another was added followed by another. The small space gives the show a "cabaret feel," according to Mr. Feinstein, one that has an atmosphere of intimacy and connection with the audience. Mr. Feinstein believes this type of connection is only possible in a live performance and that similar shows are hard to find in this "digital age." He however loves the spontaneity of live shows and lives for the fact that "anything can happen at any moment." He wants to perform in this way because "every show is different."

While Cheyenne Jackson has achieved Broadway heartthrob status, he has in fact been in a committed relationship since 1999. When asked how he makes it work he replied with a smile, "it's pretty easy." His partner makes Cheyenne "keep it real" and Jackson says that his partner is his "best friend" who "keeps him grounded." HIs answer makes sense in light of the New York Times review of the show that said that this 2-man act makes "love between men seem as 'normal as blueberry pie.'"
