Love, Loss, and What I Wore Opening Video

By Leora Kanner, Broadway Magazine

In this exclusive clip, Broadway.tv takes you into the world of "Love, Loss, and What I Wore," a heartfelt show that is taking Off Broadway by storm, with major stars both on-stage and off. Based on a collection of short stories and crafted for the stage by legends Nora and Delia Ephron, the play tells the poignant tales of women through the lenses of their clothing and accessories. In this video, Broadway.tv and Broadway Magazine talks candidly on opening night with the actors and creators of the show:

Playwright Nora Ephron says that she completely fell in love with the book that involved "woman talking about her life, through her clothes." According to Ephron, women can describe and recount their lives through their fashion and things like "what you wore that made your mother mad...the things that mark the major points of your life."

Working with Nora was one of the perks that caused some of the major actresses to become involved with the production. Tyne Daly, one of the actresses in the ensemble, describes how she was moving her ex-mother in law into her home when she got the fateful call from Nora. "I actually said, you're kidding me, in another language," she said. Once she heard the project off her response was "what ever you want me to do I'll do it." Samantha Bee, of The Daily Show fame, said that it's a "beautiful collection of stories, I of course jumped at the chance to work with Nora and Delia-titans of Broadway and titans of television."

Rosie O'Donnell had a similar reaction to Daly when she received Nora's phone call. When asked by Nora she immediately said "of course" O' Donnell believes, similarly to the creators, that the show is "not about fashion at all, about friendship and feelings and how that manifests through clothing."

Natasha Lyonne, another member of this talented ensemble, echoes this sentiment, discussing how she believes the show speaks deeply to the female experience. The show "reminds them [women] its ok to just exist and not be perfect." The show, "through various women's views," expresses the message that "life is about more when you look back." This show is a new experience for Lyonne as she has done mostly movies. The experience has been "challenging and exciting" and its been great for her to "work with women of such caliber."

With positive reviews and a rotating cast of stars, "Love, Loss, And What I Wore" will likely be running for some time to come. Check out the entire video interview right here on Broadway.tv.
