Golden Globes Celebrate Glee: Broadway Cheers

By Christopher Moore, Broadway Magazine

"This is for everybody and anybody who got a wedgie in high school,"said a triumphantly droll Glee creator Ryan Murphy after the show won the Golden Globe award. The victory for this off-beat and up-beat show had Broadway fans cheering. With a cast of stars and guest stars that could read like Playbill for a Broadway dream production, Gleeks know their Broadway.

As the Golden Globes honor and celebrate the show, Broadway.tv and Broadway Magazine offer these highlights from our conversation with the Glee team at the awards ceremony. Part shocked, part awed, and always engaging–the grateful Glee team remains genuine and down-to-earth despite their meteoric success.

"I'm starving,"shared Glee star Jane Lynch on the red carpet, "I have to meet some celebs. I met Glen Close, who I'm a huge fan of, and Julianne Moore and Tom Ford, so I could walk away right now, but I'm not going to because we've got an awards show to do."

"It's just great that Ryan and the whole creative team went to the far reaches of Broadway to find some talent for the show,"smiled Matthew Morrison of the hit show Glee, from the winners press room.

"More people saw the pilot of Glee then my entire 10 year career on Broadway, so the numbers are staggering,"said Matthew Morrison to Broadway.tv on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.

"I attribute everything to my Broadway training, my high school training, my college training, it all led me to this place and I'm just so thankful to be here"reflects Mr. Morrison on the red carpet. "It's been really amazing. It's been a fantastic ride, and I'm going to ride this pony as long as I can. I love Glee. I love being on the show,"shares Amber Riley at the Golden Globes.

Jenna Ushkowitz of Glee smiled on the red carpet as she recalled: "I had a Golden Globes party last year where I just watched it from my living room, so it's pretty incredible. We're just so grateful."

"It feels amazing. We're part of something that is just so special...we've created our own world and we can kind of do whatever we want to do–and we do 'do' whatever we want to do. I think audiences are drawn to that,"reflects Matthew Morrison.

"It's been going pretty well, we've been working pretty hard the last couple of weeks. We start on our Madonna episode tomorrow, so lots of singing and lots of dancing coming your way,"shares Chris Colfer on the red carpet.

Broadway and Glee star Lea Michelle also tells Entertainment Weekly that Jonathan Groff will be appearing on the show, and in another red carpet moment she reportedly wished that Justin Timberlake would appear on the show too. Jennifer Lopez is also reportedly in talks to appear on the show.
