Burn The Floor Broadway Video: Hot, Sexy, and Raw

By Leora Kanner, Broadway Magazine

Burn the Floor kicks off the Broadway season with an explosive offering of ballroom dance. Broadway.tv and Broadway Magazine take you inside the show and give you up-close interviews with the cast and producers of the newest show to hit the Broadway stage. This show is described as Dancing with the Stars but "faster" and "crazier." The Burn the Floor company has been performing for the past 10 years and producer Petra Roby describes the company's move to Broadway as the "pinnacle at the end of 10 years."

Carrie Ann Inaba, one of the judges on Dancing with The Stars and a producer of "Burn the Floor" says that the show reminds her of "the days when I was a dancer" and so she knew she needed to get involved. Watching the show live only reminds her "how much work goes into this" and she warns the audience to "get ready to get blown away." Carrie loves how the story of the show is "spoken in the universal language of dance" and thanked Dancing with the Stars and other reality dance shows for bringing "ballroom dancing to the masses."
Now, with ballroom dancing "here on Broadway" Carrie is ecstatic that finally dancers are featured players instead of used as the chorus or the backup.

Dancers from Burn the Floor had fantastic things to say about the show. Robin Windsor described the dancing as "hot, sexy, and raw." Sharna Burgess said to "expect ballroom dance like you have never seen it before." Its "ballroom reinvented" because it has been influenced by so many other styles. She praised the "diverse cast" and "amazing choreography" that features work from around the globe. Damon and Rebecca Snydan have been dancing as a couple for the last 15 years and dance together in the production. Rebecca gushes how "this is our dream, what we've worked towards together." Damon believes that dancing with his lifelong partner "enhances our characters on stage." Because of the couple's familiarity, their romantic numbers are not acting but "genuine."

The cast of Burn the Floor is joined on stage with Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovksy, champions of Dancing with the Stars. Their limited run with the company has gone extremely well. Karina believes that its an "amazing cast" and gushed about how "everyone is in fantastic shape." This is the couples Broadway debut just as it is Burn the Floor's Broadway debut.

Harry Medcalf, another producer, describes the strategy of Burn the Floor. "
Our recipe is really very simple" he said. He wants people to leave extremely happy with their feet "tapping." Tapping and smoldering too.
