Broadway Bares Best Yet Video

By Christopher Moore, Broadway Magazine

"I think, speaking objectively, I always knew I was good-looking. But, I said to myself, 'I really want to be hot.' And I am. Look at me!" says comedian Mo Rocca backstage and bare-chested at the Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS Broadway Bares benefit.

"This is the craziest thing I've ever done," says West Side Story's Joshua Buscher.

It is a 19-year Broadway tradition that combines a worthy cause, talented performers, original production numbers, and an absence of clothing. This year Broadway Bares raised over $800,000 for Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS, and Broadway.tv and Broadway Magazine were there to see and experience the backstage alchemy that can only happen when some of Broadway’s finest get together and take off their clothes for a great cause.

"It's just great to strip down to your skivvies, and I'm all about being proud of yourself, whatever your size is," says the dazzling Whitney Thompson, winner of America's Next Top Model, talking about stripping down for the special event.

"You know, HIV and AIDS - it's still a fight. This is an incredible organization," says Shrek star Sutton Foster of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Performers from across Broadway joined for two performances. Check out the video feature with Nick Adams, Kat Ventura, Michael Balderrama from In The Heights, Gavin Creel from HAIR, Cheyenne Jackson, Christopher Sieber, Daniel Reichard, and many more.

This year the show sold-out faster than any previous incarnation. Backstage, volunteers like Sydney Gallis worked quickly to repair costumes, while out front stars like Sutton Foster sang and danced and bared some if not all for the cause. Check out the performance clips and backstage interviews, and find out who goosed Gavin Creel only on Broadway.tv.

BROADWAY BARES 19.0: "CLICK IT!" was produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, created and executive produced by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Catch Me If You Can, Legally Blonde, Peepshow in Las Vegas), and was conceived and directed by Peter Gregus (Jersey Boys).
