Today In Broadway History: Grease Is Word Feb. 14

 Grease Says Hello

BROADWAY MAGAZINE—One of the most popular musicals in Broadway history was born on this day in 1972. The hit musical Grease
debuted on February 14, 1972 at the Eden Theatre downtown, before swiftly moving to Broadway in June. The original production stayed in Broadway theaters for more than 8 years, playing 3388 performances, the record at that time. Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the power of Grease the musical shows no signs of letting up.

The latest Broadway incarnation hit the road and is currently touring the US. Today, the show is in Washington DC with former American Idol stars Taylor Hicks and Ace Young having a ball as the “charmers-in-chief” according to the Washington Post. Grease remains the word. Happy Broadway Birthday! Check out some more about Grease right here.

Also on this day, Network Global and Broadway Magazine joined forces to launch Broadway.tv in 2008, and that is worth some cake too!
