BTV Catches Up With Al Pacino At The Golden Globes!

Merchant of Venice hits the Red Carpet

Broadway.tv’s sister company, Red Carpet Network, caught up with Al Pacino at the Golden Globe Awards this weekend. Pacino walked away as winner for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role in You Don’t Know Jack but not before taking a moment to reminisce over his role in Merchant of Venice.

Pacino expressed that Merchant of Venice has been “just a real trip.” As one of Shakespeare most controversial and thrilling plays full of love, betrayal, forgiveness and revenge the play was a perfect choice for 2010’s Shakespeare in the Park. But what started as an immensely popular summer production in Central Park became a critically acclaimed sold-out hit on Broadway. “To be in a hit like that… it doesn’t come along often. I think I’m enjoying it more now than I would’ve say 30 years ago.”

Unlike the movies, Pacino finds that “it’s a very fulfilling thing to do something every night. [Afterall] I believe I have a bit of the performer in me. I’m not sure of it now, for some reason, [I’m] trying to keep away from turning into Robin Williams in front of your eyes… it would be disturbing.”

Ultimately, theatre calls forth a craft from within yourself.  “It’s like if you were a musician and you were playing in an orchestra and you playing Mozart or Beethoven and you got a chance to interpret that, play it every night… it give you some.” And so many audiences have walked away from Pacino’s impressive performance of Shylock with a new take on Shakespeare.

Merchant of Venice is currently playing at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street) through the end of February before it goes on national tour.

Judi Dench Has Advice For Young Actors - Video Interview

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Broadway.tv’s 9 on Nine Series

Judi Dench is one of the most successful stage and screen actresses in the world. While doing interviews for Nine the movie, we asked Dench what advice she has for young actors.

Dench told us that one of the most important things is staying determined and being aware of your surroundings. Dench says that being a stage and screen actor requires an abundant amount of energy. Dench says that you should watch actors that you admire and if possible, get their opinions on your representation of characters.

What was found most exciting from our interview with Dench is that she went into detail on the actors she observed and the technique she used when she was starting her acting career.

Watch the video above to see what Judi Dench says was the best piece of advice she ever received.

Fergie Talks About Nine, Black Eyed Peas and Standing For Something

Broadway.tv’s 9 on Nine Series

We think Stacy (Fergie) Ferguson is great. No, not because she called NetworkGlobal’s CEO cute, but rather because she is an amazing singer and actress.

Ferguson has had a very successful career in music. Now she is also making appearances in Hollywood productions as well. In Nine Ferguson plays the sexy and sensual Saraghina. Maury Yeston, writer of the Broadway production of Nine says that Ferguson almost steals the entire movie version of Nine with her performance.

Ferguson says that she anticipated being in Nine to be a lot more intimidating. Nine stars Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench and Daniel Day-Lewis, to just name a few.  With a lineup like that, Ferguson says that she expected Hollywood attitudes. However, she says that making Nine was exactly the opposite, with the cast getting together and mingling like old friends.

One reason we admire Ferguson is because she stand for something. The Black Eyed Peas (and Ferguson as a solo artist) write lyrics and participate in events to get young people motivated in making positive change. We asked Ferguson why standing for something as an artist has been so important to her.

Watch the video above to see why Stacy Ferguson stands for progressive change and to see what advice she has for young people.
