New Sondheim Merrily Rolling To Broadway???
Stephen Sondheim continues his Broadway roll. With the big-buzz Broadway revival of Sunday In The Park With George opening, and Gypsy next month, recent news that Roundabout Theatre is eyeing Merrily We Roll Along for a Broadway revival in 2009. According to a Feb. 20 article by Philip Boroff in Bloomberg, James Lapine who worked with Stephen Sondheim writing the book for Sunday In The Park With George may direct. Merrily features popular songs like “Our Time” and “Not A Day Goes By” (famously covered by Frank Sinatra). Though the show had a troubled Broadway debut, it is hard to bet against the combination of Roundabout and Sondheim…with the possibility of Lapine, as well. With Sweeny Todd slaying fans at the movies, and more Sondheim likely on its way to Broadway, Sondheim’s Time thankfully continues! What will be next???
