US Congressman Barney Frank On Equality March & Progress On Same Sex Marriage
Mixing Ragtime And Politics
Tonight we spoke with United States Congressman Barney Frank on the opening night red carpet for Ragtime. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was also on hand to celebrate the opening of the Broadway revival.
Representing the 4th congressional district of Massachusett’s since 1981, Frank was the second openly gay member of the United States House of Representatives. Since coming out, Frank has been one of the foremost politicians fighting for rights for same sex couples.
Frank was very outspoken leading up to the Washington DC Equality March saying that it would have little impact. Several have touted the march as a success with stars like Lady Gaga and Cynthia Nixon speaking at the event. Tonight we asked Frank his thoughts.
Congressman Frank said that the Washington DC Equality March “had zero impact.” Frank said that he works every day to try to make impact but marching on Washington is not the way to progressive change.
We also asked Frank to comment on New York State’s progress on same sex marriage. Watch the video above to see what Congressman Frank had to say.
