Musical Opened On Broadway 50 Years Ago Today

Rodgers and Hammerstein The Sound of Music musical opened November 16th, 1959, that’s half a centuray ago!

The Broadway show featured actors Mary Martin playing Maria, and Theordore Bikel as Captain Von Trapp.

Did you know The Sound of Music was the final musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and in 1965 the movie version of The Sound of Music won an Academy Award.
