Hip-Hop Group’s Broadway Dreams
It has been two decades since Run-DMC stormed onto the music scene. This week members of Run-DMC are meeting with Hollywood producers to discuss bringing the hip hop group’s story to Broadway.
Paula Wagner is heading up the project, Wagner is the brain behind Tom Cruise’ Mission Impossible movies, and Valkyrie. This would be Wagner’s first step onto Broadway a dream she has held onto for a long time.
Wagner told the New York Times, “[Run-DMC’s] lyrics and music are infectious…It’s vibrant, it’s alive. Who they are and what they did was a culturally defining moment. It embraced everybody…Their rise to fame is innately theatrical…it speaks to everybody…I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with them.
Wagner is said to be meeting with ‘Rev Run’ Simmons who stars on MTV’s Run’s House, as well as Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and also an estate representatives for the late Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell.
