Neil Young Greendale Staged At Ice Factory Festival

Ice Factory Finds Narrative and Form

Neil Young Greendale“Theatre needs poetry and poetry needs and audience,” said Maxwell Anderson. Well, rock poets like Neil Young have a large following, but to date bringing that poetry to the stage has proved difficult. The concept musical based on Bob Dylan’s music fumbled out of the gate, but there is new hope with the New York Times profile of the upcoming production at the Ice Factory Festival. The upcoming production is called “Neil Young’s Greendale.” The show comes from the Undermain Theater in Dallas. Adapted into a movie by Neil Young, “Greendale” as a film was described by New York Times critic A. O. Scott as “Splendid! A touch of Raymond Carver, a hint of Sherwood Anderson… as full of crazy, honest life as anything Neil Young has done.” Now, Undermain brings their stage version to New York City for an extremely limited run from July 23 through July 26 at the Ohio Theatre only. Tickets are $15.
