Gugu Mbatha-Raw Plays Ophelia In HAMLET

The beautiful Ophelia in Broadway’s HAMLET is played by English actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw. If you saw HAMLET on Broadway starring Jude Law and you wondered who the beautiful Ophelia is played by here is a quick profile.

Mbatha-Raw studied acting at the world renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, RADA accepts only 28 students per years in a rigorous acting curriculum.

Mbatha-Raw played Jenny in a regular role in the TV series Spooks, as well as the lead of Vivienne Davis in the BBC drama Bonekickers.

She has appeared in Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, as well as playing Juliet in Romeo And Juliet, both in 2005 at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.

In November 2008 Mbatha-Raw played Monique at the National Theatre, as well as in the tour.

Prior to appearing in HAMLET on Broadway, Mbatha-Raw played alongside Jude Law in HAMLET in the Donmar’s West End production of HAMLET.

If you were wondering about Mbatha-Raw’s unique name, her father is a doctor from South Africa and her mother a nurse from England, Gugu come’s from Gugulethu, which means “our pride” in Zulu.
