Best Friend Comments On Oprah Leaving Daytime: “…I knew before you did.”
Tonight while at the opening of Fela! we had the chance to interview Gayle King the best friend of Oprah Winfrey.
The world was a buzz late last week when Oprah made an announcement that she will leave her daytime talk show in 2011, after 25 years of being on the air. We asked King (who is the Editor-At-Large for O Magazine) what she thought of Oprah saying goodbye to daytime. King says that she thinks Oprah made the best decision, most importantly for herself. After a quarter century of Oprah’s show being rated number 1, King says she is saddened by the news noting that a lot of people will have a hole in their schedule every weekday at 4:00pm. Even so, King points out that we still have a very exciting season still in store.
When asked if she knew before the public about Oprah’s decision, King recalled a recent interview with First Lady Michelle Obama. King asked Obama when she knew her husband had chosen Joe Biden as his Vice Presidential candidate. Mrs. Obama said, “I knew before you did.”
