David Beckham and Victoria Beckham Heading To Broadway?
Dublin Theatre Company Introduces New Show
Shows with sports themes can do well on Broadway. The upcoming revival of “Damn Yankees” is a case in point. With that in mind, word comes from Dublin of a new musical based on international soccer star David Beckham and his wife Posh Spice. The show is to be called “MacBecks”and is a comic telling derived from the life of Beckham utilizing Shakespearean form. From the Dublin Tribune:
“MacBecks features a cast of characters very similar to the ones who have featured in David Beckham’s life, including Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson and most controversially, his former PA Rebecca Loos…Penned by Après Match and I, Keanostar Gary Cooke and fellow I, Keano cast member, Malachy McKenna, the comedy musical is tipped to be a box office success when it makes its debut in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre next January.”
“I, Keano” was a soccer musical also from Ireland that found a strong Irish audience. Could we soon see David Beckham and Posh Spice as characters in a “MacBeth” parody? Maybe. GOOOOAAAAL!
