Mark Rylance Hosts Broadway Shakespeare Globe Benefit
Tony Winner Hosts All-Star Shakespeare
Broadway needs a Shakespearean Globe Theatre and big names are working to make it a reality. Mark Rylance may be a Tony Winner for his performance in the hit comedy revival Boeing-Boeing, but he also has strong connections to William Shakespeare. It is from this place of genuine love of Shakespeare that Rylance and a host of others have joined together to support the effort to build a Shakespeare Globe theatre on Governors Island in New York City. The list of artists lending their support to this historic and artistic cause is a who’s who of Broadway. On Monday night the put their talents together for a special benefit. The artists involved include Rylance, Tom Cavanagh and Anthony Rapp both winning praise for Some Americans Abroad, Cheers’ George Wendt from Hairspray, Top Girl Martha Plimpton, Christian Hoff, Alice Ripley, Barrett Foa, Denis O’Hare and more. The benefit is called VARIATIONS ON SHAKESPEARE and will take place on August 4th at New World Stages in New York City. No tickets will be sold in advance and must be purchased on-line.
