Broadway Star Gets All Bacchae On Us At Lincoln Center
Genuine Broadway God Plays Genuine Greek God
“Sweet Land” star and Broadway staple Alan Cumming has made a reputation for being interesting, provocative, and capable of both comedy and tragedy. He shines in those plays that give him a format to directly address the audience, thinking of Cabaret or Three Penny Opera. On stage, his connection to the audience is immediate and powerful. Now, Mr. Cumming has yoked his considerable talents to the National Theatre of Scotland’s production of The Bacchae, playing at the Lincoln Center Theatre Festival. Starring in the production as the god Dionysus (son of Zeus himself), Cumming has found another powerhouse classical theatrical vehicle to showcase his talents. If Euripides is turning in his grave, it is probably because he’s trying to get an even better look at the production. Positive buzz surrounds the rock-inspired classic Greek drama.
