Classic Play Gets Raves
The classic play Fences by August Wilson will soon have a Broadway production directed by the accomplished theater artist Suzan-Lori Parks, as we shared with everyone last March. Well, Ms. Parks may want to check out the new production of the play going on at Penumbra Theater (August Wilson’s St. Paul theater home, when he was based in that city). Penumbra’s current staging of Fences received high praise from critics including Dominic Papatola and involves such Wilson contemporaries as Marion Clinton and Lou Bellamy. If the Broadway buzz for Little House on the Prairie has been muted of late, it may be that this production of Fences will end up being the Twin Cities production of the season.
