Tony Nominees and Where They Were
BROADWAY MAGAZINE—It is a logical question that can produce some interesting answers…where were you when you heard you were nominated for a Tony Award? Anne Rodeman has compiled a few first hand accounts of the magic moment for some of Broadway’s best this year. Congratulations to all.
Mark Kudisch (9 to 5) heard the news from NY1 while sipping tea on the couch with his girlfriend.
Gregory Jbara (Billy Elliot) went to The Coffee Shop on Union Square West and 16th street to watch the announcement. He knows they have NY1 because he was there to watch Obama’s inauguration in January.
Carole Shelley (Billy Elliot) “I opened one eye and saw that it was 8:30am. Anyone calling me at 8:30—oh my lord it’s the Tony Day—has got to be having news for me. So I picked up instantly and the phone never stopped ringing.
Christopher Sieber (Shrek) was caught in a torrential downpour during rush hour traffic when he received a congratulatory phone call. “I pulled over so the headline wasn’t ‘Christopher Sieber tragically dies in car crash upon hearing he got a Tony nomination.’”
