Critically Acclaimed Director Does Broadway!!
Spike Lee has a new film Passing Strange: The Movie, this film explores the Passing Strange created by Stew, and Heidi Rodewald was a smash success on Broadway with over 165 performances.
Stew plays the character “Youth” in Passing Strange and Youth is what Stew saw himself as growing up in Los Angeles, where his struggle to find his way in life are explored.
Lee says of Passing Strange “I became a big fan of it.” because he related to the musical in the era of the 70s when he grew up.
Lee was asked by Steve Klein, the shows producer if he would make a film version of Passing Strange before the show closed, and Spike agreed. There were challenges to Passing Strange: The Movie as the budget was under $2 million. Passing Strange: The Movie was filmed over the final few performaces.
Passing Strange: The Movie will air at the IFC Theater in New York for one week beginning August 21st, and will also be available as video-on-demand on cable.
