NYC Students Are Introduced to Broadway
Audemars Piguet, BC/EFA and Tony Awards Team Up
Today at the Shubert Theatre 1,000 students from New York City public schools got the opportunity to take in their first Broadway musical. Thanks to a partnership between Audemars Piguet, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Tony Awards, students were treated to a performance of Memphis as part of a special initiative launched by the show’s producers called “Inspire Change.” In attendance were kids from 11 public schools throughout the 5 boroughs of New York.
In addition to the taking in Memphis, the students took part in in-school workshops and a talk-back with the cast and producers of the show, as well as representatives of the Tony Awards. Stars of the musical were treated to a surprise when all 1,000 students joined in singing the show’s finale, “Steal Your Rock and Roll” after practicing for weeks in preparation.
Video of the performance will be available later this month at: www.TonyAwards.com; www.AudemarsPiguet.com; www.broadwaycares.org; www.memphisthemusical.com/inspire
