Daniel Radcliffe Not Horsing Around With Olympian

No Rest For Equus Star

BROADWAY MAGAZINE – Broadway’s recent star Daniel Radcliffe completed his run in Equus having earned high-marks for his performance and his professionalism (in a season which gave us Jeremy Piven bowing out of Speed-The-Plow under questionable circumstances). Only 5 days after taking his final bow on Broadway, Radcliffe headed off to film the seventh Harry Potter movie.

Radcliffe took time to meet with Olympian Show Jumping Medalist Peter Leone backstage in the final days of Equus. It was Leone’s Lionshare Farm where the cast learned to become horses, though we hope Daniel did not learn how to actually blind horses at the farm. The hauntingly poetic horses of Broadway’s Equus helped make this production effective and highly memorable. In a season packed with strong revivals, Equus merits strong consideration for the Tony awards.

Leone shared that Radcliffe told him that Broadway audiences were even more invigorating than West End houses. While he enjoyed the stage, Daniel is also quite excited to return to film as well. Broadway fans can only hope that he’ll continue building a career in both theatre and film. He certainly proved that he has the talent and discipline to excel in both venues.

Special thanks to Sydney Todd and Candia Fisher for sharing the photograph with us.

I thank you for addressing the fact that Dan Radcliffe is worthy of being recgonized for his performance and his professionalism for his work on Equus. This being his debut performance on Broadway adds to the meritorious review for this fine young actor. I am happy to say that I was witness to his work in Equus, having attended two performances and at each, the audience responded with cheers and a standing ovation as Radcliffe was introduced to take his bow. I am a fan and continue to be enthralled with his list of achievements. I can only hope that the next one includes a Tony nomination for best actor in a dramatic play on Broadway. Again, thank you for bringing readers your story; plus the great photo of Dan with Olympic Show Jumping Medalist Peter Leone.

I did see Equus in New York back in October but I knew Dan was a brilliant actor even at the tender age of 9 when I first saw him in his first movie David Copperfield. I have no doubt in my mind whatever he does in the intertainment field later after the last Harry Potter movie is done that he will be brillient in it. He’s a special person. I and some friends got to meet him 4 years ago at a Harry Potter premiere and the few minutes we had with him was like we had known him for years. He’s just like any other teenager who is not in the lime light. He’s real easy to talk to and a real sweet person.

I have not seen Dan Radcliffe as Alan Strang in both the West End and Broadway so I feel that as a big loss because I am a big fan of Dan. He’s a brilliant actor who continues to excel in whatever projects he does. From the rave reviews he got for Equus, I am also hoping for a Tony. And let’s all hope he’ll be back on stage with a musical this time. Good luck Dan!

I am a major fan of Daniel, and i got to see him in Equus on Broadway back in Jan. and i could literally not believe the outstanding performance he gave playing this troubled 17 yr old who blinded 6 horses. He really has come along way since his debut in David Copperfield ( Which i recommend you seeing if you have not, it is excellent) to now. Daniel is very intelligent and very sweet (haven spoken to him myself) and he cares about his fans very much. Their support is what i believe keeps his striving to become a better actor. The reviews he got while in Equus were astonishing and i really do believe he should take on more broadway projects whatever they might be in the future. (keep your fingers crossed for that musical!!!!) Keep going Dan, we’re all right behind you supporting you every step of the way!!!
