Belarus Free Theatre: Being Harold Pinter
Ground-breaking Troupe Performs In Sydney
(BROADWAY MAGAZINE) The late Harold Pinter would no doubt be proud. The latest work from the Belarus Free Theatre is called Being Harold Pinter, and it is another reason to keep your eyes fixed on this theater company. Banned in their homeland, which has become a dictatorship, Belarus Free Theatre has been championed by the likes of Pinter, Tom Stoppard, and even Mick Jagger. The Belarus group reminds us that there are still places where theatre is dangerous literally, rather than just figuratively. Weaving the works and words of Pinter, with images of oppression, Being Harold Pinter seems a fitting salute to the challenging playwright. We have a full slate of images from the recent production at the 2009 Sydney Festival on our home page. Broadway meet Belarus.
