Today In Broadway History: Rain In Spain Again March 25
Thursday, March 25th, 2010Broadway Shaw Musical Born Again
BROADWAY MAGAZINE- It was the rain in Spain again. On March 25th 1976, My Fair Lady was revived on Broadway for a grand total of 377 performances. Leading man Ian Richardson won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a musical while director Jerry Adler earned himself a nomination for Best Director.
Of course, My Fair Lady is a musical adaptation of Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. Other adaptations of Shaw’s work into musicals include “Man and Superman” which was adapted as the musical “Hairspray” and “Misalliance” which was adapted into the hit Broadway musical “Annie Get Your Gun.”
Of course, we made those last two up…and that is why Mr. Shaw is not smiling.
